We are in our sixth year as an organization and are very pleased with our progress thanks to the support and generosity of New Holland area residents," said Welsh. "What began as an idea in 2002 now has a membership of 109 and a home in what used to be Kauffman's Hardware Store. Our goal now is to renovate the building as a museum, prepare it for exhibits, construct and identify displays and raise funds to make all of that happen.

Artifacts, historical data, photos and literature have been donated to the museum, and the collection of meaningful memorabilia remains a top priority. Educational and historically centered meetings of the New Holland Historical Society are held the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm in the Garden Spot Village Chapel and the public is invited to attend.

Donations, both materials and money, can be made by contacting the New Holland Historical Society at PO Box 464 New Holland , PA 17557 or by calling 717-354-9515 or 717-354-0858.

Purpose

To organize and preserve information and historical items that give insight to understanding the life and the times of the New Holland area, and sharing these finds with others.

Overview

The New Holland Area Historical Society was formed as a 501-C-3 nonprofit in 2005. The main goal of the society is to find artifacts, historical data and photos and to archive them for future generations. It also educates people who have an interest in West Earl., East Earl, and Earl Township's historical region. The museum will be in the former Kaufffman Hardware store on Main Street in downtown New Holland once the building is renovated to house the museum.

The first known settler to the New Holland area arrived in 1728. A large population of German and Swiss (Amish and Mennonites) who became known for their exceptional farming ability settle most of the land.

Mission

The New Holland Area Historical Society is hoping to get your help in it's mission to preserve the past in this entire region. Monthly meetings are not mandatory but are there for educational and historically centered programs. A NHAHS quarterly newsletter subscription or the year will be mailed to your home or business which highlights people, places and events that helped to shape, promote and preserve our history.

The main goal of the society is to find artifacts, historical data, photos and to archive them for future generations. We hope to educate people who have an interest in West Earl, East Earl, and Earl Township's historical region. Short range goals include beginning a membership drive, having regular monthly meetings and programs, promoting local history through events, educational and social activities. Long range goals include finding a permanent home for the society, where the group can meet, house or catalog artifacts. We also hope to update the documented history of the New Holland Region along with their surrounding towns and boroughs.
